Here’s Why You Shouldn’t Wear A Bra, According To Science!!

Bra 2Since its commercialization in 1912, women have resorted to wearing this undergarment to support their assets and avoid sagging. In fact, every year women collectively around the globe splurge up to $16billion to purchase inner garments that look good and serve their purpose. Recent studies have revealed that bras too have a role in a woman contracting breast cancer. Every year, 13th October is celebrated as ‘NO BRA’ day in a bid to spread breast cancer awareness and raise money for the same. However, it’s not just to spread awareness about breast cancer that we have penned this article, but a less grave, yet notion-defying revelation that might just convince most women to trash their bras.
Sport science researcher Jean-Denis Rouillon, a professor based at the University of Franche-Comte in the eastern town of Besançon, conducted a study on the effect of bras on breasts to prove if bras do help women’s assets being firm and prevent sagginess. Dr. Jean led a team that examined the effect of bras on the breasts of 330 women over a span of 15-years. With the base being Centre Hospitalier Universitaire (University Hospital), the team used a caliper and a slide rule to note the physical changes in the busts of each woman year in and year out.
The studies revealed that the women, who chose to do away with this unnecessary accessory, had a 7-millimeter (0.3-inch) lift in their nipples when compared with regular bra users. They were also firmer, since according to the team, bras affect the circulation of blood to the breasts and reduce the tone over time. According to Dr. Stafford Broumand,” “For younger women, not wearing a bra will lead to increased collagen production and elasticity, which improves lift in a developing breast.” All in all, the finding of the research pointed out that wearing this piece of lingerie from the time of puberty does not help in reducing back pain, supporting the breasts and preventing sagging. In fact, it does quite the opposite and as Professor Rouillon adds, “Medically, physiologically, anatomically – breasts gain no benefit from being denied gravity.”
Though the research is in its preliminary stages, it has already reached significant conclusions. The women who were part of the research form just a fraction of the female population. Other women continue wearing this clothing for various reasons. That being said, the norm of ladies believing that bras would delay the sag and improve their bust is defied with this startling revelation.
